SCORE Among Foundation's 2019 "Strengthening Our Communities Fund" Award Recipients
The Fifth Third Foundation has announced its 2019 Strengthening Our Communities Fund grants for Eastern Michigan. The awards, now in its third year, benefit local nonprofit programs that support affordable housing, small business development and financial stability for individuals and families.
“Fifth Third Bank is committed to strengthening our communities and it takes engaged and strong partners to truly make a difference, like the organizations that are receiving the grants this year,” said David Girodat, regional president for Fifth Third Bank in Eastern Michigan. “Thanks to the dedication and resources of these vital nonprofits, Eastern Michigan residents and businesses will greatly benefit.”
The Strengthening Our Communities Fund is part of Fifth Third Bank’s Community Commitment, which will invest $32 billion in mortgage lending, small business lending, community development lending and philanthropy by 2020. At the end of 2019, $10.5 million will have been invested across Fifth Third’s footprint through the Strengthening Our Communities Fund.
SCORE officially received the $50,000 at a reception held on September 25.
SCORE of Southeast Michigan plans to use its $50,000 grant for educational programs at the Ford Recreation and Education Center in northeast Detroit and continue to provide mentoring support for SBA Emerging Leaders program, and expanding its CEO Roundtables for small business in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. It will also be providing mentoring support with the Accounting Aide Society in providing financial classes and business start-up support. SCORE of SE Michigan has 120 business volunteers providing mentoring and educational services for small business in seven counties of southeast Michigan.
"FifthThird is a long-time supporter of SCORE of Southeast Michigan in helping with SBA Emerging Leaders and our training classes at Northwest Activity Center in Detroit," said Donna Hover-Ojeda, Chapter Chair, SCORE of Southeast Michigan. "SCORE has run 112 workshops with more than 5,000 small businesses attending our workshops and 2000 new clients each year. SCORE is the largest business-to-business all volunteer organization in the country with over 13,000 volunteers nationwide," she added.
