What is SCORE?

SCORE is a mentoring organization. We provide free mentoring, resources, and advice to people who are in business or want to start a business.

Who gives this advice?

The volunteers of Ann Arbor SCORE. Volunteer mentors are experienced owners or managers of businesses, or other professionals with a depth of business management experience, who volunteer their time to help small businesses succeed.

How much does it cost?

There is no cost for individual mentoring. Some workshops or seminars may have a small fee.

How many free business mentoring sessions am I entitled to?

You can come back for as many sessions as you wish. Each session will last for approximately one hour. SCORE mentors are interested in your success and will follow up to see how you are progressing.

Does SCORE Ann Arbor provide funding, grants or loans?

SCORE is not a lender or provider of funds or grants but we can help guide you in the process of finding funding or loans.

What qualifies SCORE volunteers to give business advice?

The key qualification SCORE mentors bring to the table is real-world experience. SCORE volunteers have specific industry and general business expertise. Mentors may be retired business owners, business executives, retired business school faculty, professionals (such as Lawyers or CPAs) with a significant business background, or operations managers. Many volunteers work full-time.

Are business secrets safe with SCORE?

Yes. All SCORE mentors honor the client's right to proprietary and confidential information. That information remains confidential as provided by SCORE's Code of Ethics. Mentors reaffirm their commitment to the association’s Code of Ethics each year.
