How a Lifelong Passion Became a Passion ProjectI met Karen Chapelle at the Parkman Branch Library in Detroit after she had signed up to be mentored by SCORE volunteers. I was instantly fascinated by her story...her past and her background...and even more so, about her present endeavors!Karen graduated from Cass Tech in Detroit. She became an attorney and spent 30-some years as a prosecutor in Los Angeles. She moved back to Detroit two years ago, and decided to pursue another passion outside of the law. Anastasiya McCurry, a member of the Southeast Michigan chapter of SCORE, is founder and owner of Kid's Atelier, an educational enrichment program provider serving students 4-12 years old. Anastasiya McCurry. born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, has her undergraduate degree in Computational Chemistry. At an early age, she participated in the experimental program which introduced genetics, physics, and anthropology to elementary school children. When she moved to the United States of America, she incorporated her love of dance into a full-time job, teaching students of various ages to ballroom dance. Later
Denecho originally considered starting a franchise home care service, but the price to entry was steep, and she looked for other options. With the mentorship of volunteer mentor George Stern, she was able to find the guidance and encouragement she needed to start her very own business. George mentored Denecho on a variety of start-up assistance, including the State of Michigan and EIN registration.
