What do you do?

Anastasiya McCurry, a member of the Southeast Michigan chapter of SCORE, is founder and owner of Kid's Atelier, an educational enrichment program provider serving students 4-12 years old. Anastasiya McCurry. born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, has her undergraduate degree in Computational Chemistry. At an early age, she participated in the experimental program which introduced genetics, physics, and anthropology to elementary school children. When she moved to the United States of America, she incorporated her love of dance into a full-time job, teaching students of various ages to ballroom dance. Later on, her technical background allowed her to work in the automotive industry. As the next step in her career, she founded Kid’s Atelier, which she is deeply passionate about.

The purpose of Kid's Atelier is to introduce complex concepts early in the child's development, so the student becomes familiar with a subject by the time he or she faces or interacts with it in the everyday life. We develop, design, and teach after-school enrichment programs in science and art. Our programs include Chemistry, Botany, Ballroom Dance, and Habits for Life, etc. Conceptually, all our programs are based on Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate curriculum, adapted to the students' age group and particular school we work with. Each session has uniquely designed personalized materials, as well as hands-on experimental activities.

How SCORE helped.

SCORE provided all necessary resources to be successful every step of the way, from basic business planning resources, such as templates and working spreadsheets, to the variety of webinars that you can access on your own time. The most valuable part for me was the CEO roundtable group, which, through collaboration, offered great mentoring and an opportunity to learn from business peers...as well as accountability. I really like the monthly schedule, which gives just enough time to process and implement presented information without it being a “burden” or just another thing to do on the long list of tasks. Group leaders themselves offered a tremendous wealth of knowledge and business expertise, which made sessions valuable. I would recommend SCORE to anyone who would like to start a business and grow it!

What would you tell a fellow business owner about SCORE?

Regardless of where you are in the process or state of your business, you will be able to find relevant information and people who are willing to help you. It doesn’t matter if you are at the beginning of the journey, if you are trying to get to the next level and increase revenue, or develop your exit strategy.

What will your business look like in 10 years, when your dream comes to fruition?

My organization will become a national franchise, serving students, sparking curiosity in science and art, and inspiring them to become lifelong learners. We also would like to provide an opportunity for people who love to teach to have their own entity, which allows you to do what you love, generate income and have the flexibility you need to live the life you would like to live.
